so I'm at this rich guys house, actually the owners of Matrix Fitness and Spa programming this this fancy new logictech remote control which you program over the internet. Weird, of course it is asking me questions about activities which only the owners can awswer and of course I can't get a hold of them.. I would find something to eat, but they already gave me cherries and coffee, so I am bored and this is why I am writing this entry. I wish they would get back with me, I have to go turn in my Student Loan independent verification packet, and I am sure there will be a line for that as well. |

My homage to Frederik Ruysch who was a Dutch anatomist and a pioneer in techniques of preserving organs and tissue. In addition to his scientific contributions, he made artistic arrangements of his material. He had his own museum of curiosities, and among the displays were a number of dioramas assembled from body parts and starring melodramatic fetal skeletons. A few of these were captured in meticulous detail “drawn from life” by the engraver Cornelius Huyberts. These engravings were inserted as foldouts in various early 18th century editions of Ruysch’s works.
This T-Shirt is for sale, the work was taken from a drawing in a foldout that was scanned and put online of one of the diorama's, sadly almost all of Ruysch's work and all his diorama's have been destroyed by the ravages of time, only a few of these amazing drawings still exist to document this extraordinary work ...

"So, what do you want to know?" asks David Byrne, beaming beneath a straw fedora, as erudite and affable as ever, even with a couple busted ribs. "What's not apparent?" He's gesturing to an ornate antique organ, the only adornment to this cavernous 9,000-square-foot hall in the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan. A bewildering farm of tubes and wires runs out from the back and snakes along to the walls, the towering columns, and the pipes looming overhead, as if the instrument itself were on life support. Not much, at first blush, is apparent.
David would like it if you came and had a go at the organ. Or, more accurately, the venue itself. Playing the Building, his partnership with arts gurus Creative Time, is basically an interactive experimental-music station, a chance for you (and/or your kids) to pretend you're a member of Einstüerzende Neubauten for a couple minutes. Each key on the organ connects to a tube, which connects to some facet of the building, which dutiful whirls or clanks or whistles or saws at your command.
